Whenever the management scholar starts the research in the management issues, there comes the problem of defining the working sphere of management sciences. Every scholar defines it in his/her own circles of mind but I found following four definitions to be more concerned still different from each other. Though these definitions are not the final ones but I will continue to add more and more comprehensive definitions of management sciences.
Definition 1: Management Sciences is defined by TechEncyclopedia as a study of statistical methods (such as linear programming and simulation) with a purpose of analyzing and solving organizational problems [i].
Definition 2: Barron’s Business Dictionary defines the management sciences as study of management while the school of management is of the view that it relates with the use of mathematics and statistics to help to resolve management, production and operations problems but still with a major objective to provide management with a tool of quantitative analysis for decision making [ii].
Definition 3: As explained by the Lancaster University Management School, School Management Science is a science concerned with developing and applying models and concepts which are useful in helping to solve management issues and managerial problems by applying mathematical models (sometimes computer-based, visual or verbal representations) [iii].
Definition 4: As defined by Cambridge Business English Dictionary, Management science is an applied science which deals with designing and developing new, better and applied models for organizational excellence [iv].
